MARIA DE MOLINA

Sotogrande, Cádiz

The project is a renovation of an established garden with magnificent views to the river. Our task was to adapt the existing courtyard and garden spaces to the renovated “Palms Springs” style architecture. We retained or transplanted  the majority of the established trees (Washingtonia and Phoenix palms, Yuccas) whilst creating colourful, sinuous mixed borders all around them as well as the pool area.

The new mediterranean mixed borders are a focal point in the garden, and provide colour all throughout the year. Spring is predominantly soft coloured, with pinks, light blues and whites. Summer turns more colourful when the rich pinks and purples of Salvia ‘Christine Yeo’ and Verbena Bonariensis start taking control of the garden.

The overall plant palette was a fun one, we mixed mediterranean natives like Salvias, Teucrium and Thymus with English roses, Citruses and Pomegranates with some of the existing agaves and Chamaerops Humilis

We worked alongside the client to select the best roses for our climate and we incorporated them in the borders and as climbers along the perimeter walls. Far from being just traditional plants, we were excited to trial them in a more contemporary setting and were pleased with the result.
